Written, produced and directed by Adam McKay, Don’t Look Up is an American satirical science fiction film. In the movie, astronomers warn humanity against a ‘world destroyer’ comet to no avail. The comet, in this sense, is an analogy for climate justice and the film satirises the government and media indifference to the climate crisis.
I watched the film due to major FOMO over the discourse on Twitter, and honestly, it was fine. I could have happily gone on without discussing the film if it wasn’t because of the A-list casting and digital discourse. Yet, here we are…
My first thoughts
As is customary, I shared my thoughts on Twitter as I watched the film. Though I thought it was pleasant enough, I did not believe it was a very smart attempt at satire. I wouldn’t say it was a bad film; it was just very basic.
