Weekly Newsletter #18: The importance of nuance
The first celebrity death that hit me was Nipsey Hussle. I personally don’t listen to a lot of rap so it wasn’t the celebrity I mourned but the man who gave back to his community every chance he got. The second is Kobe, his daughter and all the other passengers who were on that helicopter. 5 families have just had their worlds changed forever. The sheer randomness and severity of the crash has me reeling. Yet, I feel anger above all else.
Complicated situations like these demand nuance and sophisticated responses. Yet so far, I am seeing half baked discussions and responses. I am noticing a considerable lack of compassion, empathy and nuance from people who claim to know better.
I speak about it more in a piece I just wrote (I’ll link it below) but yeah… feeling a lot of complex emotions.
